I'm half way through the 1st week of a 3 week break from work. My choir, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir, is mounting a 3 night production of Henry Purcell's opera, 'The Fairy Queen', an opera based on William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", this Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Our final tech/dress rehearsal was last night, and we charged reduced rates for those who would not usually pay larger sums to attend an opera. It went really well, and the choir have come along in leaps and bounds since we started rehearsing in about August last year. I'm sitting this one out, due to work commitments impinging on the 80% rehearsal attendance requirement, but am having a wonderful time watching the choir, and orchestra in their last minute preparations. We've managed to secure the services of the some members of the Sydney Chamber Orchestra and some rising and future professional opera singers who are acting as the principals. Many choir members have smaller parts and are acting as understudy, and acrediting themselves extrememely well.
