OK, so today was hot, very hot. I think it got to at least 95, hot and dry. Bushifire to the north of Sydney meant that the Sydney-Newcastle expressway was closed.
So, I sweltered in the morning and after lunch found myself an indoor pool in a "sports complex" which wasn't too crowded. Heaven.
Just about to crack open a bottle of Semillon Chardonnay. Two glasses tonight and two tomorrow - maybe 3 tonight and 1 and a half tomorrow.
A couple of weeks ago I bought myself a DVD burner, for backing up my data - documents and music etc. Being a procastinator I waited a while and tonight got it out of the box. Set it up OK, replacing a previous unit, which was identical but had busted due to a senior's moment of mine when I forced the gate shut. It was still under warranty but the blue was mine so I thought I'd better do the right thing.\
So I set it up, lights on, gate opens and shuts etc. but the disk doesn't seem to have a stable stowage so everytime I press the button to shut the gate, the DVD skewiffs to the side. I open it, replace and same thing. Checked the instruction sheet (brief as it is, ) open the support site, not much info for me there, and turn the thing around to get the serial no. etc, just in case I hve to email Lacie. Yep, you guessed it, the writing on the back of the machine upside down. I couldn't read the writing on the front, so didn't twig when I plugged everything on. Rotate180 degrees and bewdy mate, she's locked in.
The last nine years working on a HD has taught me to be patient , start at the very beginning, and try to work things through.
D'oh. At least it works. Now I can put all my podcast archives on a DVD.
Time for the chardy. Again, have a great week folks.
