31 Jul 1977. Place Falmouth - Weather - Fine.
This morning I stayed in Falmouth for a while to do some laundry. On to Penzance for lunch and then a quick look at Land's End. After that it was a pleasant drive to a small village called "St Just" where I will stay the night. Its only a small place but there are a quite a few holiday makers who come through. Falmouth yesterday was a very enjoyable little town. I hope to make Bude tomorrow night. One month since I left home.
Back in 1977 I finally plucked up the courage to spread my wings and see some of the world independently. I'd almost completed 9 years service in the Royal Australian Navy, and at that time, the Navy was offering a $1000 (Australian) Re-engagement Bounty. Now back then $1000 was worth a fair bit of money. It paid for a return flight to London and part of the payment for a 14 day European Carefree Spree travel holiday with American Express Travel. Over the next month or so, I'll rewrite the diary, and maybe add some remembrances and the diary might jog my memory of some of the things I'd forgotten about. Eventually it'll form a separate blog but we'll have to wait until I finish the transcription.
