What a wonderful day it is today. Its sunny, not too cold, but incredibly windy. Brings the colour to your cheeks.
After finishing yesterday's blog entry I walked up to the Applecentre and got one of the sales people to show me the 12" iBook. You're going to get tired of all this iBook talk over the next few weeks but humour me OK. Anyway, I wanted to make sure that what I'd read about small screen size, eyestrain etc was indeed piffle; which it was. We experimented with a 14 font in Appleworks, which looks similar to a 12 in a PC/MS Word, and that seems fine. I fell in love with the thing. But, the senior/supervisor salesperson came over and his first words were "it's too small isn't it, you really want a 14", and if you're after a 14" why not get a 15" Powerbook with G4. I gave him a quizzical look, bit my tongue and walked out of the store. Its a bit like setting your heart on a nifty 4 cyl car and the salesman tries to get you to buy the 6 cyl, same make different brand, mainly because you'll be outpouring more dollars. Resolution is to find another Applecentre. I know there's one closer to home so I'll try them.
I caught the ferry back from Circular Quay to Manly after lunch and the combination of wind, tide and swell made for an interesting ride. Not rough by anymeans but the waves were breaking over the bow, and the ferry has outside seats and viewing spots as well as inside. Consequently all those tourists etc who were outside soon came in looking like half drowned rats. Which is kinda like I looked last night getting from work to the busstop. Heavy rain overnight but fine and windy today.
